Our local physicians offer several surgical approaches for a hysterectomy near Laramie County, including:
Abdominal Hysterectomy
Through the abdominal approach, the physician makes a small incision in the lower abdomen to remove the uterus. This is most common for patients with enlarged uteruses.
It is also useful when the physician wants to address multiple conditions during a single procedure. Additionally, we use the abdominal approach when other surgical approaches aren’t appropriate per the patient’s medical history.
Vaginal Hysterectomy
Using the vaginal approach, the physician removes the uterus through the vaginal canal, rather than making an external incision. This can reduce visible scarring and shorten recovery time. The physician may recommend this approach for patients experiencing uterine prolapse or for those with an extensive medical history.
Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
Patients may prefer the laparoscopic approach for its minimally invasive nature. Through the laparoscopic approach, the physician makes several small incisions instead of one large incision.
The physician uses specialized tools and a small internal camera, projecting the surgical process onto a screen in the operating space. The physician then removes the uterus, usually through the vaginal canal.
Not all hysterectomies are the same. Your physician recommends the approach best suited to your overall health, medical history, and current symptoms.
